attempt to locate and pull out the object that has punctured your tire. Unscrew
your valve cap and attach the nozzle of the product to the tire valve stem and
press a button to release the contents. Loosen lug nuts with a tire wrench with
the car on the ground.
Lift up the car
with a jack at the jacking point. Check your owner's manual if you are unsure
where it is. Remove the lug nuts and pull the wheel off the hub. Examine the
tire for foreign objects like rocks or nails. Feel along the tire, if
necessary, to find things that blend into it. Pull out any object with a pair
of pliers and mark the spot with chalk or markers. When there's no protruding
item, it may be more difficult to find a leak. To find these leaks, mix soap
with some water until it becomes a lather.
Apply the soapy
mixture to the surface of the tire. Bubbles will appear at the site of your
leak. Mark the area the same way you would have if there had been an object. Locate
the rasp tool contained in the tire plug kit and insert it into and out of the
hole quickly. This tool will clean and roughen the area so the fix will stick. Fill
the plug and with cement from the kit. Use the insertion tool to place the plug
into the hole. There should be roughly an inch of plug protruding from the
tire.
Allow the adhesive
to dry for at least a minute, and then cut away the excess plug material from
the tire surface. Pump air into the tire and check that the tire is at the
correct air pressure. Apply some soap mixture onto the plugged hole to check
the seal to make sure it is holding. If it isn't holding, add a little cement
or retry using another plug. Put the tire back on the hub and tighten the lug
nuts using a star pattern.
